The valve function of “Shut-off and on” means the valve can stop and start a fluid flow. Depending on whether a valve is open or closed, it let pass the process fluid or halt the fluid. It is designed to safely stop or continue the flow offluid. It is like a switch in the electric circuit. These valves are often used for routing process fluid to different locations, starting and stopping batch processes.

Because of this function, it is called shut-down valve, lockout valve,cut off valve etc. It is the most common function of the valve. The ball valve, butterfly valve, globe valve, plug valve, gate valve all have such functions when installed in the piping system. Basically this valve function is performed in full-opened or 100% closed.
