The side entry valve means a valve that has a stem that connects the trim on the side. It is referred to the identification of “Top entry valve”, the valve trim is assembly to from the side of the valve body. Because of this side entry structure, it is not able to check, require and inspection from an in-linepiping system.

The side entry valve commonly is ball valve which has a split body, it has the advantage of low weight, low cost, but it is not easy for maintenance.

There are also two typical types of side entry ball valves,side-entry trunnion mounted ball valve and side-entry floating ball valve.
