In the industry valve design, sometimes the valve closure member is designed in floating type and supported by the valve seat. In contrast of this type, some valve closure member is designed in Trunnion type, and it is fixed in position by a stem or trunnion which are supported in bearings in the valve body. Such types of design could be found generally in ball valves. The ball valves also have the design double bleed and block.

Besides the ball valve, the closure member floating type valve (seat supporting) and trunnion type valve also could be found in the design of check valves and other valves. But mostly, it is popular in the ball valve design for different working conditions: They are Floating Ball Valve and Trunnion Mounted Ball Valve.
